John Filippelli

Chief of the Strategic Planning and Multi-Media Programs Branch,
U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 2    

John Filippelli has been with U.S. EPA for 31 years and is currently the Chief of Region 2's Strategic Planning and Multi-Media Programs Branch. He is responsible for the Region's National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), pollution prevention, and energy programs as well as various planning and grants programs. He also co-chairs the Region’s Climate Change Workgroup and Green Construction and Operations Team (Green Team). John previously held management positions in the Region's air pollution control program with responsibility for State Implementation Plans, mobile sources, emissions inventories and air monitoring. He was also team leader for Region 2’s solid waste management program with responsibility for the Region’s landfill, waste transfer station, recycling and source reduction actions. Prior to joining EPA, he worked in comprehensive transportation planning for the New York City Department of Transportation and land use planning for Jersey City, New Jersey. At the community level, he served on the North Arlington, New Jersey Zoning Board and Board of Education. John holds B.A. and Master of City and Regional Planning degrees from Rutgers University.
